Pentax System issues in Relay mode (Firmware 1.1.008)

Hi,

Some issues with Relay enabled for Pentax system.
  • Firmware 1.1.008
  • RF60x flash always on with the same Radio channel/group as V6II.
  • Two v6II, one as Tx and the other as Rx. Both with Relay enabled.
  • Tested on K5, K5IIs and K1.

Scenario 1

  • Tx off camera.
  • Rx off camera with the release cable connected to camera. Display: 'Manual ON' (no flash system)
  1. Tx wheel controls RF60X power and zoom.
While using Tx wheel, Rx lights orange.
  2. Half press on Tx shutter:
    Tx and Rx light orange.
    Starts camera AutoFocus.
  3. Full press on Tx shutter:
    Tx and Rx light green.
    Camera shutter is released.
    RF60X does not fire.
    Rx displays 'Relay Time Out'.

Scenario 2

  • Tx off camera.
  • Rx on camera with the release cable connected to camera. Display: 'Manual ON' (no flash system).
  1. Tx wheel controls RF60X power and zoom.
While using Tx wheel, Rx lights orange.
  2. Half press on Tx shutter:
    Tx and Rx light orange.
    Starts camera AutoFocus.
  3. Full press on Tx shutter. Two possible scenarios (I have not found a pattern).
    1. Tx and Rx light green.
      Camera shutter is released.
      RF60X does fire.
      Rx displays 'Relay Time Out'.
From this point Tx and Rx do not have communication (half press Tx does not lights Rx orange).
For communication to be ready again -> a) Turn off Rx and turn it on again. b) Wait some time for communication to be ready (couple of minutes).
    2. Tx and Rx light green.
      Camera shutter is released.
      RF60X does not fire
No message 'Relay Time Out' in Rx.
After this point, the communication between Tx and Rx is inconsistent.
Sometimes half press on Tx, keeps Rx orange constantly.
Communication should be OK, but some time, depending on Rx and Tx position (I have not found a pattern) there is no communication between them.
For communication to be consistent again, turn off Rx and turn it on again.

Scenario 3

Same as scenario 2, but in Tx attach a Flash.

Same behavior as scenario 2 when full press Tx.
In addition, Tx flash is fired but it does not sync with camera.

Scenario 4

Not really a Relay scenario.
This issue does not happen with K1, only with K5 and K5IIs

  • Just one v6II.
  • RF60X turned on.
  • Attach cable release to camera and V6II.
  • Turn on Camera and v6II as Tx.
  • After a few seconds (I think it is 10 seconds) Rx starts blinking green and flash fires constantly.
    To stop it:
    1. Half press Tx. After 10 seconds it starts again.
    2. Half press camera. After 10 seconds it starts again.
    3. Unplug cable from v6II. After plugging it, it starts again.
    4. Unplug cable from camera or shut down camera. After plugging again or starting up the camera it starts again after 10 seconds.

Hope this help :)

If you need me to test anything, please let me know.

Regards
Ramon

  • Thanks again Ramon,

Not sure what's wrong with Relay here, so I have passed it to the R&D team to test and follow up.

    Thank you.
