X-TTL... Wow !

I installed the X-TTL firmware for Fuji on my two V6 II and updated the firmware on my RF60X and tested TTL and HSS with my X-T2 camera and the following flashes :

- Remote Cactus RF60X : Everything works perfectly.

- Remote Fuji EF-X500 (mounted on V6 II) : Everything works perfectly.

- Metz 52 AF-1 (Nikon personality) : Synchronizes OK but I cannot change the output level by Compensation in TTL mode or by adjusting power level in Manual mode... Are there compatibility issues with the Metz 52 AF-1?

Bravo Cactus for giving Fuji users real RF Wireless TTL and HSS functionality!

    - Remote Fuji EF-X500 (mounted on V6 II) : Everything works perfectly.

I have tried it out with a V6II on a X-Pro2 (a general remark is that the AF-assist light does not work correctly, it apparently does not respond to the signals from the camera):
    • RF60X (works like you have reported)
    • Metz M400 on a V6II: does not work, the flash is not regognized by the RX-unit as fuji, and  manually setting the flash does not work as well (still after manually settig the RX to Fujifilm). The Metz M400 should have an interface much like the EF-X500, so I am surprised by that.
    1. Flash zoom level can be set from the on-camera TX unit, not from the in-camera menu (it immediately jumps to 'WP')
    2. Flash power level cannot be set, except from the M400 itself
    3. TTL does not work
Generally the TX-unit does not listen to settings (like TTL-compensation) made in  the in-camera flash menu
  • We are getting the Metz M400 shortly to study.

    I'll get you posted.

  • Hi Ray,

Another Metz 400 with Fuji X-T2 user here. And interested in your findings after you study the Metz.
  • Thanks. I'll keep you guys posted.

    My experience with:
    X-Pro2 fw 3.10
    V6II fw FUJ.1.002
    M400 (Fuji-version) fw 1.2
    is:
    - the M400 is automatically recognized as a Fuji-system flash now
    - it is possible to set zoom level and power level for a M400 mounted on a V6II-RX from a V6II-TX. However, the power level cannot be set to a level <1/64 (it should be possible to set the flash to 1/256)
    - in ttl-mode the M400 appears to fire at fixed power, so that apparently does not work correctly right now
  • Lowest power the M400 can go is 1/64.

Try mounting the M400 on the camera directly and the lowest you can go is 1/64.

However using X-TTL firmware for Fujifilm, it can go lower than 1/64 when using TTL mode.

In 'FP'(HSS) mode the M400 is limited to a minimum of 1/64, in normal sync modes, whether TTL or manual, it can go down to 1/256
  • Thanks for sharing your experience.

    What you described is true.

However, V6 II does not have such a Menu option that the same option for you to swap between X-Sync and FP (mode).

FYI HSS is always ready on the V6 II, so unless we create an option for an "Always X-Sync", you cannot go below 1/64.

    Thanks!

  • Hi there I have been out of the Cactus loop for a while... I have seen a guy on Youtube using the V6ii trigger on the Elinchrom Quadra to give HSS/HS with the Fuji X-T2 before I buy two units as Tx and Rx is there anything I should know or be aware of... I am tired of waiting for Elinchrom to produce an HS trigger...

Does the V6ii give HSS and TTL? And does it give it without issue?

I look forward to hearing from you guys.

    Thanks in advance
  • Hi @DavidE

Regarding Elinchrom studio strobes, please refer to these discussions:

And to answer your questions, there's likely not going to be TTL. But yes to HSS, at least for the models tested by V6 II users in above links.

    Hope these helps.

    Thank you.

Hi thanks for the reply... this is the Youtube video I refer to  be interesting to see if anyone else is using the same set up as the guy in the video... before I push the button on two triggers :D
  • Thanks for the video link.

Hope that someone with the same Elinchrom can share their findings.

  • Hello Mjarry

Do you know if the Cactus V6 II can work like this  :
    - (1 or 2) Cactus V6 II in RX mode with on top 1 Fuji EF-X20 on top of each
    - one  V6II in TX mode on a XT2 with a flash on TOP (Metz 400 or Fuji EF-X500 or EF-X20).
The question I have 2 EF-X20 and 1 EF-X8 (the one provided with the XT2)
I was thinking that this could work in TTL mode with Fuji EF-X20 but not sure that this could work in HSS sync mode as this is not available on a Fuji EF-X20 Flash .

    Thanks

    Serge
