Is copying custom flash profiles from "old firmware V6" to other V6 with newer firmware OK?

Hi again; another question...

The V6 user manual states on page 70:
"Note: Firmware updates will erase ALL custom flash profiles you have saved in the V6."

I didn't want to run through the "learning process" for all my different flash units again so I updated the firmware on all but one of my V6 (loosing the custom profiles). I then copied the custom profiles from the "old" V6 to the "new" ones. Only then did I upgrade the firmware on this "last" V6 and copied the custom profiles to it too.

Everything seems to have gone well.

Is this procedure "OK" or was there a change in the profile format in the new firmware that might have "scrambled" the custom profiles, rendering them useless or incorrect?

Thank you for your help and for your great products.

Kind regards,
Michael

  • Hi Michael

I was impressed that the way you used to retain the flash profile. This procedure is absolutely fine. FYI, the V6 cannot upload the customs profile directly to the computer. So, saving all profiles in on V6 and send them to other V6's is a good method.

    Thank you.

    Hi again :-)

Somehow I never saw this post of yours; thank you for the heads up...

  • All is well (nearly)...

I downloaded the installer again (it is version 2.02 although the file is listed as v2.01) and ran it as administrator after uninstalling a previous version...

I then ran the updater and was able to download the latest firmware from within the program.

The only thing that still bothers me is that 'learned' settings are still deleted during the update process so that to avoid having to run through the 'learn process' again, I still have to use the work-around described in my opening post... :-(

Any chance of having this resolved?

Otherwise I'm still very very happy with my V6! Keep up the good work! :-)

    Kind regards,
    Michael

To help us better help you, always state the exact firmware version installed on your Cactus device(s), such as: "1.1.013", "FUJ.1.002", "v.103".

For the time being, Cactus V6 (MK1) running on firmware version 2.1.001 can be triggered by a V6 II (MK2) running on Multi-brand HSS firmware (e.g. 1.1.013) and not by X-TTL firmware versions: PEN.A.001 and OLY.A.001.  No schedule has been released yet.

Cactus RF60X / RF60 Firmware versions A01 and A02 currently ONLY works with PEN.A.001 and OLY.A.001.  Other "A" version of X-TTL firmware will be released soon. For both Multi-brand HSS and X-TTL firmware versions (FUJ, SIG, SON), install firmware version 103 / 205 on your RF60X / RF60.

Cactus RF60 is now an off-camera TTL flash with firmware version 205 or later!

Metz M400 (for Fujifilm) is now supported on the Cactus V6 II (HSS and TTL).

  • R&D confirmed that based on the current framework previously learned profiles cannot be kept. So you would have to stick to the copy flash profile method on one of your units and don't update them all at once.

    Thanks for your understanding!

Thank you very much for trying to help; much appreciated :-)

As long as my procedure from the opening post works, I'm OK.

Perhaps just remember it as a future 'feature request'?

Or perhaps adding a ' save learned profiles' function in the firmware updater would be possible?
To export and then import saved profiles?

I'm not complaining, just trying to make a really great product even better...
    I have five V6 and a LV5.Couldn't be happier.
Been singing your praises for quite a while on dpreview and other forums....

If you ever need an eager beta tester, you know my number... :-)

    Kind regards,
    Michael
