Will Cactus V6 get update to support Olympus FL600r

Will Cactus do a future update to the V6 trigger profiles to support the Olympus FL600r flash ? the flash works with full TTL pass through using the FL-50R profile but having a dedicated one would iron out some small bugs.

Is the hardware to handle such an update or do we need to wait for V7 ?

Very impress with the units and build quality.

  • Due to the limitation of the hardware design, I'm afraid that the V6 is not going to have the flash profiles for Olympus FL600R.

  • A couple of questions:
    • Can you use manual training of the FL600R or do I need to control power on the flash unit
    • If I use passthrough TTL to a FL600R on the camera can I control the power of a V6/Canon 430EX II via the V6 on the camera (i.e. at the same time as using TTL pass through)? This would be so I could control FL600R and Nissin i40 via pass through TTL and other non Olympus TTL flashes via Cactus V6

  • Hello @pgfrancis,

    When you use the FL600R as an off-camera flash unit, you will need to set it M mode, so manually controls its power on the flash unit, and only wireless flash triggering, no wireless control.

    Yes you can certainly TTL passthrough your Oly flash on a Oly camera, and at the same time wirelessly power control a 430EX mounted on a V6 (RX).   If you are using TTL passthrough, you can't "control" flash power outputs per se other than + / - EV.

    Hope this helps!

  • Hello guys!!

    I own a EM1, and a FL600R, and thinking about buying the Cactus V6. I understand that if I put everything on manual (the way I like it) then you CAN control the power output from camera, is that right?

    More important even, does it support High Speed Sync (FP)?

    I just need a transmitter and one receiver, since I will be using only one flash...

    Thanks!!

    So the answer is, no unfortunately.

    In order to do remote power control, the flash must be in TTL mode when mounted on a V6 RX unit.

    Despite the Cactus V6 can remote control TTL flashes, it is still just a manual flash trigger, so it does not support HSS / FP modes.

    You may consider instead the Cactus RF60. It's got a built-in radio transceiver just like the V6, so you can it as a Slave flash as well as a Master flash to control other V6 or RF60 units:
    http://www.cactus-image.com/rf60.html

    It has a GN of 56 @ISO100, so much more power than the FL600R, at GN36 @ISO100.

    At moment, only these Olympus system flashes are supported to do remote power control on the Cactus V6:
    - Metz 44AF-1, 52AF-1, 58AF-2;
    - Olympus FL-36R, FL-50R;

    Thank you.
