Canon 5D3 flash sync problems.

I have a Cactus V6 on Camera.  Camera is set to M at 1/200 sync (max of the camera)  When I shoot the camera, the flash has a dark bar at the bottom of the flame (its the shutter curtain)  I get this if I use (on the remote flash) a Canon 600EX or a GODOX 860C. No matter what flash I use, I get this. At 1/160 it goes away.. problem is I need to shoot at 1/200.  On my older manual Phottix triggers, they worked perfectly at 1/200.  Why is the flash sync not at lease 1/200?

  • I take it you are not seeing the black bar when mounting one the flashes directly on-camera, correct?

I realise that your other triggers worked at 1/200s but it may be worth confirming that there still won't be black bars without using any trigger.

The V6 should handle a sync-speed up to 1/1000s so I'm surprised to hear that you see a black bar at 1/200s. Have you perhaps in the past experimented with the delay feature and forgot to reset it to "OFF"? Make sure to check both transmitter and receiver.
  • I have both Canon 5D3 and Canon 600EX in hand to test. With V6, I was able to shoot at its native sync( 1/200s) without any dark bar at the bottom of the flame. I set the camera to M at 1/200s also.

Maybe you can update the V6 to the latest firmware. Hopefully, it helps to solve the problem. You can download it at here,

At the same time, can you check if the V6's DELAY mode is activated? Please turn it off and try again. I also suggest to do a factory rest in the V6.

    I hope that helps.

  • Raychan.  I do have the latest version of the firmware. And this is where it gets really strange.. When I mount the V6 onto the camera, I get the black bar from the remote. When I mount a flash onto the V6 on the camera and turn that flash on with pass through TTL, it works fine.. ONLY when I have the 600EX or the Godox 860 and use them remotely with no on-camera flash do I get the black bar.  I also have two other problems. 1) the TTL pass through does NOT work on one of the V6s. I reset it, re-installed firmware, etc..etc.. Nothing.. 2) on the unit that the TTL pass through works, the test fire button on the V6 does not work most of the time.. I think the 2 step switch is broke (this unit is a week old)

With the flash on-camera there are no black bars.. I am going to try my 2nd 5D3 and my 2nd 600EX (and I also have a Cactus flash..
  • PS.. The delay is turned OFF everywhere
