Flash models supported by predefined profiles

ok. so only P-TTL support is available for my pentax k-5 with only pentax supported flashes.

No, with a V6 your K-5 can trigger any flash from one of the supported systems (Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Fuji, ...). If the flash model is supported (or can be learned by the V6), the V6 can also manually control its power level. You can even mix brands and flash systems in one setup and control them individually.

The above includes supported flashes from Pentax (P-TTL or TTL).

There is no special support for P-TTL, except for the case of a P-TTL flash mounted to an on-camera V6, that has "TTL pass-through" activated. In this case, this (and only this) on-camera flash will "speak" P-TTL with the camera.
  • Thanks. Got it! Just ordered 2 more v6.
  • Hello, I miss the flash profiles "Pentax camera with flash METZ 58 AF-1". For other camera manufacturers like Canon or Nikon this profile is available for Pentax cameras not. How can I solve this problem? For a solution I would be grateful.

the latest firmware update is available and I have installed.

    Greetings, Marcus

You should be able to create your own profile for this flash.

Consult the manual for how to teach the V6 the power characteristics of your flash. Once you created a profile, you can use as if it had been predefined.
  • A customer have tested the Nikon SB-500 compatible by using SB-600's flash profile.

In case anyone is wondering :)

    Thanks!

  • Hi
I have a Meike 430; I expect that this flash will work with the Canon 430 profile?
I also have a "vintage" Vivitar 636AF which was originally used with a Minolta 7000. The flash is ttl dedicated but can only be set to 2 different levels manually. Any chance of profiling this flash or use any of the existing profiles?

    Jta
Update: Tried a set of V6 with the MEIKE MK430, and it does not work; in Canon learning mode, it won't even fire the flash, but it works nicely in manual mode. Tried all profiles (in the preloaded 1.0.182 FW), some of them will fire the flash but none of them can do power control.
Updated to the latest FW, but learning is still not possible.
As it is an E-TTL II flash for Canon that works nicely on the camera, i guess that it would be possible for you to make predefined profile?? - hope you can put it into the pipeline.

  • Hello @jta

For Canon, the 320EX profile is usually the fix as it's also a digital-only TTL unit. If that doesn't work then it would take us some time to decode the Meike, if at all possible.

Thanks for testing and shouting out!

  • Hello, I miss the flash profiles "Olympus camera with flash METZ 50 AF-1". For other camera manufacturers like Canon or Nikon this profile is available for Olympus cameras not. Would be possible to configure manually? I do not see any hardware limitation as 50 AF-1 profile exist with Canon or Nikon. Thank you, Tomas

It seems METZ 50 AF-1 works well with Panasonic FL500 profile. Up to now I found out just one bug, when zoom is set auto (usually 24mm) than V6 RX change setup of zoom to 70mm. Workaround is set flash to manual zoom each time (flash do not remember zoom setting) or use 70mm "automatically". Interesting is that such a way works 2 of 3 my V6s. One of them do not setup zoom (this I use in TX mode).

  • I think its a shame that the Cactus Transceivers lack support for Sigma Super Flashes...
The reason is obvious. Cactus wants to sell its own flashes... But that is not the reason why i bought Cactus Transceivers.... I bought them so I can use my Sigma 610 DG Super and my Sigma 140 Ringflash with Pentax-Hotshoes maybe on some other system and/or control all those flashes wirelessly... THX.

If it supports analogue TTL then yes.

    From spec:
i-TTL Balanced Fill-Flash with CLS compatible cameras
Manual Flash (with Nikon Creative Lighting System digital and 35mm SLR cameras)

Not sure if it can work with 35mm means it runs on analogue too?

My cactus v6 turns indicates it's on with orange lights. They lite up. The

  • Hi @NJH,

The <LCD BACKLIGHT> can be adjusted from the Sub-Menu on the V6.

    1)  5 seconds
    2)  15 seconds
    3)  Stay On

LCD will not light up unless press buttons on that particular unit.

    Thank you.

    Hi Antonio,
now all the new firmwares are out and maybe you find the time to look at the problem with the Pentax AF-500 FTZ. Did you get one meanwhile to take a look on this very good and common Pentax flash? Would be great!
    This is the flash:

  • If only we can find one here in Hong Kong - so far we can't find one in local second hand shops, unfortunately. Seems like it's not common in Hong Kong.

  • Thanks for the link @Pid
We will look into it, and hopefully I can convince management in buying one overseas - I imagine it to be difficult given that it's not that popular.

Plus, as you have read and commented over on Pentax Forums that this AF-500 has weird TTL and does not work with many Pentax DSLRs, i think the chances of it to work on the V6 II is very, very slim.

If you are only for off-camera flash, you are better off getting the RF60X instead.

I never had problems with this flash on Pentax bodys before digital area. The AF-500 FTZ is not my only flash, I do have RF60x and Metz and other Pentax flashes too. But a lot of people on pentaxforums tried to get the FTZ work with the Cactus V6 and V6II with no success. A lot of 645 pentaxians use this flash and they would like to get it work wireless too. It would be great, if you could get one and get it work.
The AF-500FTZ works with no problem in manual mode, power controlled directly on the flash. I also could force him to fire faster than 1/200s in HSS manual mode on a V6II RX. The only flaw is you cannot set the power or focal length with the cactus TX.
  • Just spoke with R&D, if the AF-500FTZ indeed does not work with "digital" cameras then the chances of it to work with V6 II is close to zero.

    Sorry!

  • he works with digital cameras in manual mode. If you use TTL mode he will fire full power as every other TTL flash. It is no p-TTL flash only TTL. Only the Pentax ist*D and the 645D will be able to use this flash in TTL Mode, because they feature TTL instead of p-TTL.
  • FYI -

I recently purchased Promaster 200SL flashes for Nikon (important: not the "200SL-R" versions), and they work great in SB-910 mode. Actually, SB-600 mode works too.
