Flash models compatible for profiling

edited September 2015 in V6 Compatibility
The following is a list of flash models for which people reported successful profiling.

Note that this list is exclusive to flash models that explicitly support profiling, i.e., the V6's learning about the flash characteristics. The V6 is also compatible to all flash models for which predefined flash profiles exist and others (such as the Nikon SB-400) for which it is possible to use existing flash profiles (e.g., the Metz 36AF for Nikon profile for the Nikon SB-400).

If you have another success to report, please post to this thread and I will add the model to this overview.
  • Canon 420EX (cannot be profiled, but works with the 430EX* profile)
  • Canon 430 EZ
  • Canon 550 EX
  • Pentax AF200T (the respective profile may also be used for the Pentax AF280T, which cannot be profiled directly.)

  • The 540EZ is a predefined profile. 430EZ is "profileable".

True, thanks for pointing it out; I've added the 430EZ.

I had the 540EZ in the list because it can indeed be user-profiled (this is not the case with all flash models with predefined profiles).

But I agree it makes sense to not repeat flash models.
  • I've tried the Canon 420EX, despite it is not "profileable" (full time TTL mode with no manual override),  I can use the Canon  430EX*  profile and it works fine on the 420EX.

  • Thanks Antonio, I've added the 420EX to the list.

    Hi Class A,

Brian has mentioned Nikon SB-80DX is a A-TTL flash on the Flickr. So, I assume this flash is eligible for profiling. Isn't it? If yes, please add it to the list.

    Thank you so much.

I'm pretty sure the SB-80DX can be profiled but the list was meant only for confirmed profiling success.

I did not find a post by the Flickr user that he actually created a profile with the SB-80DX.

The list of the flash models the V6 should work with would be huge, so I think it is better to only include actual reports of profiling successes.
  • Great! I completely agree with you.
  • Hey, guys,

I've just finished the profiling process with my SB-80DX with success. I mean with no error report.

Ist this fact (not being error reported) eligible for listing? Or should be taken a test process or review?

  • Hi palipali,

thanks for confirming that the SB-80DX works with the V6. I've added it to the list.
  • HI

I have bought three no. V6 and a Godox V860N recently and unfortunately V6 can't support the learning for V860N.

The the V860N profile will be issued?

    Many thanks.

  • Hi shclee,

It can't be learned but we can manually include a profile for this Godox Nikon version on future firmware updates.

For now, use the Nikon's SB-800 profile - it has the closest power range as the V860N.

  • With the latest firmware, the V6 is now pre-installed profiles of Godox V860N for Nikon and V860C for Canon.

  • Hi Ray

Many thanks for your info. I have updated the latest firmware ver 1.0.185, but still can't find the Godox V860N profile.
  • I can confirm that V1.0.185 does not feature the Godox V860N profile yet.

Ray must be talking about a future firmware version.
  • Class A, I see.

    many thx.
  • Thanks Class A for clarifying and that's right. We already have the profile ready for V860N in the next firmware update.

  • Raychan,

In the process of purchasing V6.  I have 3 V860N.  Has the firmware update to work with this flash been released.

Certainly, the profile for Godox V860N is ready. We will release the next firmware update soon.

  • I am also waiting for support of the Godox V860N

Just download the latest firmware (V1.1.004 ). It supports the V860N.
  • Great news!

Nikon SB-400 can be remote power control by the V6 with profile of Nikon SB-600 or Metz 36AF, reported by chansc02 ( http://cactus-image.com/community/discussion/comment/522/#Comment_522 )

  • Is the current firmware supporting phottix mitros or mitros plus for nikon?

I'm afraid that the current firmware doesn't support those flashes.

  • For the Quantum T/T2 flashes, does anyone know if TTL adapters other than the QF-13N will work?  These old adapters can be hard to come by; I have one of the 13Ns on order.  But I currently have a QF-12 (Nikon F).  Is there anything in particular to look for on these adapters?  Particular pinouts?  Any help would be appreciated.
  • I can verify that the V6 and Quantum T2 flash will work with either the QF-13N (Canon) or QF-12 (Nikon) TTL adapters.

Cool, I've added the QF-12 to the list in the first post.
  • Just got my V6'S, Metz AF58-1 for Pentax learnt a profile and works perfectly.

    Thanks for confirming!

I removed the note about the accuracy needing to be confirmed.

I just got the V6 to use on my Pentax k5 and I can't seem to program my Sigma EF-5oo DG SUPER to work, its is listed in the Canon list so I find it weird it won't work.

The V6 support for a particular flash model depends on the flash system that's why there are separate lists for the predefined profiles and also why success reports regarding the ability to support custom profiles include the flash system(s).

I understand the Sigma EF-500 DG SUPER does not support analogue TTL, which means that one cannot profile the flash oneself.

In this case, the flash may still be supported with a predefined profile on some flash systems but if there isn't one for Pentax then that means you cannot remotely control its power.
