Pre-installing Metz Flash

More than a year ago I exchanged emails through this forum when there was the origina V6 and asked why there was not a pre-installed profile for Metz mecablitz 64 AF-1 for Olympus as that is the most powerful flash Metz makes for Olympus.  I was told "don't worry, we have good news we are working on that.  I see that the VII has been announced and in the compatibility list for Olympus this Metz mecablitz 64 AF-1 is still not listed - what a disappointment.  Still just those less powerful model from the original V6 days.  How about extending the Metz lineup to include this?  Please advise and thank you.

  • Hello @azjsb

There isn't a 64 F-1 profile for you to manually select it on the V6 II, however the V6 II can now auto-detect a compatible TTL system flash, including your Metz 64 AF-1 for Olympus. :)

In order words, you will be able ot use your Metz flash for:
    1. Remote power control
    2. Remote zoom control
    3. High-speed sync
    Thank you.

To help us better help you, always state the exact firmware version installed on your Cactus device(s), such as: "1.1.013", "FUJ.1.002", "v.103".

For the time being, Cactus V6 (MK1) running on firmware version 2.1.001 can be triggered by a V6 II (MK2) running on Multi-brand HSS firmware (e.g. 1.1.013) and not by X-TTL firmware versions: PEN.A.001 and OLY.A.001.  No schedule has been released yet.

Cactus RF60X / RF60 Firmware versions A01 and A02 currently ONLY works with PEN.A.001 and OLY.A.001.  Other "A" version of X-TTL firmware will be released soon. For both Multi-brand HSS and X-TTL firmware versions (FUJ, SIG, SON), install firmware version 103 / 205 on your RF60X / RF60.

Cactus RF60 is now an off-camera TTL flash with firmware version 205 or later!

Metz M400 (for Fujifilm) is now supported on the Cactus V6 II (HSS and TTL).

  • Is this true for the m43 Panasonic gh3
  • HI @jim,

That's right. Your Panasonic GH3 is compatible. The V6 II will recognize it as an Olympus (m43) camera system. You will be able to the 3 things list in above post if your flash is compatible with the V6 II (except if it runs on Pentax, only a Pentax and trigger it and support HSS).

If you need additional off-camera flash units, you may consider getting the RF60 instead of getting another compatible TTL flash and an extra V6 II, and you will have a less chunky setup.

    Thanks!
