AF Assist

The main reason I picked up the V6 II, was to try out the AF-Assist feature.
It is nice that it's now an integrated feature, but I would like to have seen it be a proper AF assist light, like the one in ALL other strobes.
All other strobes that have an AF assist light throw out a pattern of light, not just a bath of light.
The pattern helps the camera focus much quicker since it's not so much the amount of light, but the pattern that helps the AF sensor in the camera focus on the target.

Maybe in the V6 III, you can add a proper contrast detect pattern that gets projected by the AF Assist lamp.

  • Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the suggestion. Actually we have also considered including a pattern however due to the limited space on the V6 body we ditched the idea. We also thought of using a laser but thought that is not eye friendly so we went with the conventional LED.

Your suggestion means a lot to us. If you have other ideas or wish list items for your off-camera flash and triggers, please do not hesitate to let us know.

    Thank you!

To help us better help you, always state the exact firmware version installed on your Cactus device(s), such as: "1.1.013", "FUJ.1.002", "NIK.A.001", "v.103".

For the time being, Cactus V6 (MK1) running on firmware version 2.1.001 can be triggered by a V6 II (MK2) running on Multi-brand HSS firmware (e.g. 1.1.013) but not by X-TTL firmware versions:  PEN.A.001 NIK.A.001 OLY.A.001.  No schedule has been released yet for an "A" version firmware on the V6 (MK1).

Cactus RF60X / RF60 Firmware versions A04 and A03 currently ONLY works with PEN.A.001 NIK.A.001 and OLY.A.001.  Other "A" version of X-TTL firmware will be released soon. For both Multi-brand HSS and X-TTL firmware versions (FUJ, SIG, SON), install firmware version 103 / 205 on your RF60X / RF60.
