Fujifilm X-Pro2 HSS with Nissin i40

Dear,

I still don't seem to get the HSS working with the X-Pro2 and the Nissin i40 flash.
The V6 II's have the latest firmware, so does the X-Pro2 (v2.01). The flash settings on the camera are set to TTL.
The flash does flash, but the camera shows a black image. I re-updated both the camera and the transceivers, nothing helps. I also tried to use a Metz 48-1 flash for Sony with HSS (only contact it has is the middle contact through a conversion piece) there it sometimes works.

Any idea how I could get it to work?

Thanks in advance for the help!
Regards,
Andreas

  • Hi Andreas,

The Nissin i40 for Fujifilm DOES NOT SUPPORT HSS NATIVELY.

So it's impossible for you to do HSS, unless you could hack i40's firmware ;)

    Thanks!

To help us better help you, always state the exact firmware version installed on your Cactus device(s), such as: "1.1.013", "FUJ.1.002", "v.103".

For the time being, Cactus V6 (MK1) running on firmware version 2.1.001 can be triggered by a V6 II (MK2) running on Multi-brand HSS firmware (e.g. 1.1.013) and not by X-TTL firmware versions: PEN.A.001 and OLY.A.001.  No schedule has been released yet.

Cactus RF60X / RF60 Firmware versions A01 and A02 currently ONLY works with PEN.A.001 and OLY.A.001.  Other "A" version of X-TTL firmware will be released soon. For both Multi-brand HSS and X-TTL firmware versions (FUJ, SIG, SON), install firmware version 103 / 205 on your RF60X / RF60.

Cactus RF60 is now an off-camera TTL flash with firmware version 205 or later!

Metz M400 (for Fujifilm) is now supported on the Cactus V6 II (HSS and TTL).

  • Hi Antonio,

It seems that it does work with this workaround:

    http://photomadd.com/nissin-i40-high-speed-sync-hss-fujifilm-hidden-option/

It doesn't give you TTL, but all in manual mode it works fine. Only thing it only works till 1/4000s..
  • Interesting!  So perhaps the flash duration is long enough?

Despite I don't understand how a Canon TTL cable would trick it...

    Thanks @totheheart

  • I40 has hidden hss on M mode, but after update to new flash system on camera (like my xt1 5.0 or xpro2) this function not work anymore. it because fuji change sync of flash and I40 still on the same sync.

this is my old video whit i40 + cactus + xt1
