How to install and update firmware on Windows 8 and Windows 10 (Missing "libusb0.dll")

edited August 2016 in V6 Announcements and FAQ
Below you will find steps in installing the Firmware Updater and / or updating the firmware on your Cactus V6 / V6 II / RF60 that a DLL file is missing, such as "libusb0.dll".

You might see a message of a missing driver when connecting the V6 to your computer via a mini-USB cable.

Follow steps below for the fix:

Here are the steps for Windows 8:

Before installing the Updater / connecting your Cactus device, you need
to disable the Signed Driver Enforcement (also known as digital
signature) on your Windows 8.
  1. Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and press the letter C to open the Charm menu, then click the gear icon (Settings).
  2. Click More PC Settings.
  3. Click General.
  4. Under
Advanced Startup, click Restart Now. (NOTE: In Windows 8.1, the
‘Restart Now’ button has moved to ‘PC Setting -> Update &
    Recovery -> Recovery.’)
  5. After restarting, click Troubleshoot.
  6. Click Advanced Options.
  7. Click Windows Startup Settings.
  8. Click Restart.
  9. After
restarting your computer a second time, choose Disable driver signature
enforcement from the list by typing the number 7 on your keyboard.
    (Your computer will restart automatically.)
  10. After restarting,
    you will be able to install the Cactus Firmware Updater normally;
however, Windows will display a warning message. When the warning
appears, click Install this driver software anyway.
FYR fellow user on the forum created a video walk-through.

Tips: The
next time you restart your computer, driver signature enforcement will
be in effect again. You will have to repeat this process for updating
any new Cactus devices. If you wish to update devices with the same
computer, we recommend installing the drivers for each one before you
shut down or restart your computer.

Here are the steps for Windows 10:
Before installing the Updater and or connecting your Cactus device, you will need to disable the Signed Driver Enforcement (also known as digital signature) on your Windows 10.

Follow the steps below:
  1. Press Windows key on your keyboard .
  2. Go to Setting >> Updater & Security >> Recovery >> Advanced Startup (computer will restart here)
  3. After restarting Windows, click Troubleshoot.
  4. Click Advanced Options.
  5. Click Windows Startup Settings.
  6. Click Restart.
  7. After restarting your computer a second time, choose Disable Driver Signature Enforcement from the list by typing the number 7 on your keyboard (your computer will restart automatically).
  8. After
restarting, you will be able to install the Cactus Firmware Updater
normally. During installation Windows will display a warning message,
click Install this driver software anyway.
Tips:
The next time you restart your computer, the Driver Signature
Enforcement will be in effect again. You will have to repeat this
process for updating any new Cactus devices. If you wish to update
devices with the same computer, we recommend installing the drivers for
each one before you shut down or restart your computer.

I hope the above steps are helpful. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you!

To help us better help you, always state the exact firmware version installed on your Cactus device(s), such as: "1.1.013", "FUJ.1.002", "NIK.A.001", "v.103".

For the time being, Cactus V6 (MK1) running on firmware version 2.1.001 can be triggered by a V6 II (MK2) running on Multi-brand HSS firmware (e.g. 1.1.013) but not by X-TTL firmware versions:  PEN.A.001 NIK.A.001 OLY.A.001.  No schedule has been released yet for an "A" version firmware on the V6 (MK1).

Cactus RF60X / RF60 Firmware versions A04 and A03 currently ONLY works with PEN.A.001 NIK.A.001 and OLY.A.001.  Other "A" version of X-TTL firmware will be released soon. For both Multi-brand HSS and X-TTL firmware versions (FUJ, SIG, SON), install firmware version 103 / 205 on your RF60X / RF60.

Thanks for reporting but at the moment we really don't know the reason why disabling the digital signature worked before but not now. I have already flagged this to R&D and I will post updates here as soon as I hear from them.

@rwknew, did it work on your other pc?

    Thanks!

  • Good morning,

I am facing the same issue with windows 10 and the firmware updater v2.07. The red light is blicking when I connect the cactus v6ii but it is stay with the status no device connected.

What should I try? Have we got a solution for that?

    Thanks,

    Vincent
  • Hi @vnet,

Have you tried downloading the the updater installer again and follow the step by step of first uninstalling the previous installed version, then install the Updater again?

We have now included the USB DLL file so technically it should cause no device detection problems.

    Thank you for checking.

  • Hi @antonio,

I have just uninstalled the installer and and put it back again. I am still getting the "no device connected" when I am putting my v6ii. The only thing that I am getting is the orange light flashing. Have you got any suggestion on what to try next?

    Thanks,

    Vincent
  • Hi Vincent,

Did you manually uninstall the existing Updater?
Anyway, try running again the Installer, but this time if you have any anti-virus program running in the background, disable it when you run the installation.  So it should prompt you to first uninstall the existing program, then when it installs the program again, it should include the DLL file - and allow your computer to detect the device - V6 II.

    Thanks!

  • I am stuck on updating the firmware on the V6 ii.  I have the latest updater (2.07) and just reinstalled it an hour ago.  When I follow the instructions, Windows 10 says it doesn't recognize the device.  I followed the instructions here and booted the computer up in the "accept unsigned drivers" mode.  The same error message occurs.

I also tried updating the driver manually (also mentioned somewhere here).  That gets me a message of "your current driver (unrecognized) is the most current driver available."

I have repeated this on another computer, and with three different USB cables.  By the way, I also have an RF-60, and the update process worked flawlessly on it.  So ... I don't think it's my computer or cable.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks, Tim
  • Hi Tim, technically speaking when you have the latest version of the Updater you don't need to follow the "steps" above. When you install (or reinstall) the Updater the installer should have already include the DLL file. You may temporarily disable any anti virus program in case it blocked it. I say, try installing it again, let the installer removes the previous program and install again.

    Hope it helps. Thank you!
