Quantum QFlash profile

How to I get a profile for the Quantum Qflash T5dr onto my V6ii units? On the V6 there was a profile learning function which I was able to use, but it seems to be gone from the V6ii, and no ability to transfer my existing profile over. Flash just fires at full power when on auto detect.

  • I'm also having major problems getting it to sync in Powersync mode. All of these photos taken with the same sync adjustment

Forgot to mention the camera - it's a Fuji X-T1. All Cactus units running latest firmware, camera is on 4.31and I have run the learn HSS command several times.
  • Hi @vinniemac

What TTL system is your Qflash running on?

If you were able to learn the flash on the V6, that means it's runs on analogue TTL. This also means the Qflash T5dR is not compatible on the V6 II because it works with flash that runs on digital TTL protocol.

You won't be able to control its power wirelessly nor support HSS, because the V6 II can only recognize it as a Manual Flash, thus the lack of auto-detect. When you cannot auto-detect, there's no point in switching between Normal HSS and Power Sync modes.

Using the Qflash as a manual flash for HSS may still work. The condition is it needs to have a flash duration of 1/100s or longer at t0.1. You can verify with Quantum on this.

    Thank you.

  • It's on a Nikon system Antonio.

Should I be able to use powersync if I use a V6 for RX and a V6ii for TX? I wasn't able to use powersync with two V6 units as I constantly got a curtain shadow at the bottom of the frame that would have needed a negative sync adjustment
  • The Qflash won't be able to communicate with the V6 II properly since it cannot be recognized. So Power Sync simply does not work. It should not be able to boost full power. You are able to adjust the timing, but it's not really doing anything to the power.
    1. Power Sync is one sync mode of HSS
    2. HSS requires digital TTL protocol
    3. digital TTL protocol is the only language the V6 II communites in
    4. the Qflash very likely does not communicate in digital TTL protocol

You see banding no matter what timing you set, and it's either at the top or the bottom, means the flash duration of the flash is too short. :(

  • Thanks for your help Antonio. Looks like I'll be shopping for a new flash :-(

On an unrelated question - can two flashes be attached to one V6ii simultaneously? One in the hotshoe and one via the jack plug?

I know it's not a bare bulb, but how about the RF60X? It's got built-in radio, support HSS natively and recycles in 1.9s.

Yes, trigger signal goes out in both hot shoe and sync port at the same time.

  • I don't think the RF60X would be powerful enough to give HSS through a softbox and overpower the ambient light. But I'm open to correction.
  • Your T5d-R, according to Quantums' website, has a power out of 150Ws. This is approximately two times the power of an RF60 / RF60X (approx. 70Ws). So you would need two RF60 to have the equivelant power.

I think one T5d-R runs for around $550, just the head without the battery.  So you could easily trade one in for two RF60X plus other accessories?

    Just a thought :)
