Cannot get Cactus V6 IIs units to communicate

I am having difficulty trying to get my two Cactus V6 IIs
(Sony) units to talk to each other. When I press the test button on
the TX unit, I can’t get the RX unit to trigger. I even switched
the units around as transmitter and receiver and still can’t get
them to talk. I changed channel number and group letter in case there
was interference. I also set the Work Range is set to SHORT. I tried
all three firmware updates available and replaced each unit with
fresh batteries. No luck.

I just tested it on my Sony A77II and a Dynalite Uni400Jr (attached
via sync ports) with the unit set to MANUAL flash. When I take a
photo, the RX unit will blink green. When I press the test button on
the TX unit, it triggers the strobe. Individually, they seem to work
– they just aren’t communicating with each other - even as dumb

Why can’t I
get one unit to trigger the other unit? There must be something simple I am missing. I appreciate any help you can
give me.

  • Hello

When you press the test button on the TX, did you see the RX LED light turns green?

On the other hand, to set up the flash, please switch it on, then turn on the V6II in RX mode. This sequence is important.

    Please give it a try.

    Thank you.

  • I see! I read the manual inside out several times and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong.

I turned on the strobe, the RX and then the TX and everything now works!

It appears I have to break over 15 years of habit. I have always turned the camera TX on first and then my RX units on my strobes. Every company does things differently, I guess.

I look forward to testing the features of this unit and buying more if it fills my needs. Thank you for your help.
